Phil Hughes takes the mound tonight looking for his 7th win of the season and a chance to help the Yankees continue there wining ways. Hughes who threw a brilliant game against the Indians his last time out (7 IP 2 Runs allowed 8 K’s) has been a pleasant surprise for the Yankees this year and is well on his way to having one of the best season of his short career. Offensively the Yankees have had there ups and down. Mark Teixeira who did hit better in May (.280 6 HR 25 RBI’s) is still only hitting .220 on the season. In contrast Alex Rodriguez who had an incredible May (.330 5 HR 27 RBI’s) dose not look to be slowing down a bit. So far this season scoring runs has not been a problem for the Yankees despite early season slumps and injuries. Truth be told The Yankees pitching has been more of a problem, and more to the point the relief pitching. Joba Chamberlind for example has not been effective at all in his last few outings and has coast the Yankees a few games along the way as well. David Robertson, Chen Ho Park, and the recently departed Boon Logan have been far from effective out of the bullpen. Chad Gaudin who was recently released buy the A’ because he was ineffective and dose not seem to be a better option. Hopefully in time Brian Cashmen and the Yankees will figure out the bullpen problem and god willing Joba will re-find his 8th inning form again.

Six is the magic number tonight as the Yankees go for there 6th win in a row, and try to increase there lead in the AL east. Taking the mound for the Yankees is Phil Hughes, who last time out only mistakes was hanging a fastball to former Yankee Hideki Matsui, and a slight lack of control (5 walks on the night). He will be backed up offensively buy the HOT hitting Derek Jeter, Robie Cano and the sudenly red hot Alex Rodriguez. Also Mark Teixeira’s bat showed sign that it was emerging from it’s long winters nape last night. If that indeed is the case then it coudl be a vary long night for the Oakland A’s and ther Starter Ben Sheets.

Tonight the Yankees go for their 5th win in a row, and improve their record to 10-3 on the season. Taking the mound for the Yankees is Javier Vazquez who has struggled in his first two starts of the season. If their was a team for him to bounce back with it’s going to be the A’s as they are a lite hitting team. The Yankees offense in contrast is anything but light with the hot hitting Derek Jeter, Robie Cano and Jorge Posada. With a win tonight the Yankees will at the least keep pace with THOSE DAM RAYS or possibly take over sole possession of first place.
