If you’re superstitious the number of the day was “8″. The New York Yankees beat the LA Angels 7 to 1 for a combined 8 runs. Pettitte would strike out a seasons’ high 8, in 8 innings. Holding the Angels to just 7 hits and 1 run. Yankees left 8 runners on base. Oh and Pettitte faced Twenty”8″ batters on a sixty”8″ degree day. (Ok, so maybe those last two examples were a stretch… but, you get the point.)
The bottom line, was the Yankees came to play! Andy wasted no time going after batters with fierce combination’s, throwing 114 pitches over 8 innings, 75 for strikes. He battled fiercely from the mound, refusing to give up in hitters counts and all though he lost a few battles along the way, in the end he won the Day. Improving his record to an even more perfect 3-0.
NOTE WORTHY BATTING:
RBI’s: Swisher(2), Cervelli(2), Teixeira, Jeter, Cano
Brett Gardner hit his 1st Triple of the season, (9 Career)

Six is the magic number tonight as the Yankees go for there 6th win in a row, and try to increase there lead in the AL east. Taking the mound for the Yankees is Phil Hughes, who last time out only mistakes was hanging a fastball to former Yankee Hideki Matsui, and a slight lack of control (5 walks on the night). He will be backed up offensively buy the HOT hitting Derek Jeter, Robie Cano and the sudenly red hot Alex Rodriguez. Also Mark Teixeira’s bat showed sign that it was emerging from it’s long winters nape last night. If that indeed is the case then it coudl be a vary long night for the Oakland A’s and ther Starter Ben Sheets.

Tonight the Yankees go for their 5th win in a row, and improve their record to 10-3 on the season. Taking the mound for the Yankees is Javier Vazquez who has struggled in his first two starts of the season. If their was a team for him to bounce back with it’s going to be the A’s as they are a lite hitting team. The Yankees offense in contrast is anything but light with the hot hitting Derek Jeter, Robie Cano and Jorge Posada. With a win tonight the Yankees will at the least keep pace with THOSE DAM RAYS or possibly take over sole possession of first place.

Looks like the Capten will be geting the day off, and Bret Gardner will be geting his first chance to show he can handel the leadoff spot in the lineup. Andy Pettitte will take the mound for the Yankees today he has been almost unhitable in his previous 2 starts but he dose have a career ERA of 5.41 against the Rangers so today could be interesting. If The Yankees can win today they will pull off the sweep of the Rangers and extend their winning streak to 4 games.
